Currently Carol Whelan and June Phillips are putting together a non commercial book on the Wark Family of South Australia and then Chiltern. They hope to have the complete history of the family starting way back in Germany around 1600, have much of this information and are well into it as many others have joined us. So if you have any queries on this family please email us as we welcome any additions to our already extensive WARK story.

The South Aust Pioneers entries for Wark include "Wark, wife, 4 ch arrived 1846-09-27 on Pauline from Bremen 46-06-17'. there are no original manifests for that ship only the newspaper account of arrivals. The assumption that Johann Heinrich was one of his brothers passengers noted as a 4th child, cannot be substantiated. We, Veronica and myself are close to going to print with an expansive recollection of this family and we have studied this family intensely over the last 4 years. What we do know for sure is that Bernard and his wife Johanna and all 4 children Dorothy, Charles, Anna, and Johanna were all defiantly on this ship and that therefore demonstrates the 4 children being accounted for , which leaves no room for another 30 year old man to be listed as a child, and upon advice if he was aboard he would have to be in the male quarters.
From on Wednesday, 5 January, 2011

Carstein Henry Warnecke

From on Thu, 6 Apr 2006
Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you for your willingness to go over old ground. I was really pleased to find that you were still “on air”.
You have got so much more than I have, on the families than I have, and I just wanted to check a few sources. I think you have Eliza Ann’s family fairly sorted out, but I will run you through that in a later email. You are only missing Eliza Ann Strain who, I think, comes after the twins. Eliza Ann Potter died as the result of birth complications from having my grandfather, Isaiah, so her poor kids were orphans, with an old step-father, who did his best to fill in.
I was wondering how you came to get the parents of both Eliza Drake and Carsten Heinrich Warnecke? I didn’t think that Margaret Dorothy sounded very German, and the record I have found places his birth in Hanover in 1815.
I would also like permission to add your info. to my data base, (with appropriate wording, citing you as the researcher. I have not go a web page, so I won’t be putting it on-line at all.)
I had no idea of the existence of Carsten Henry, so was tickled to have that confusion sorted. (I found his marriage to Elizabeth Currie, and thought it was a second marriage for his father, so went on a wild goose chase, looking for Eliza Drake’s death).
I have Eliza Ann Warnecke’s birth certificate, death cert., and marriage to Isaiah, at least. I can tell you a bit about her families if you are interested, but this will do for a start, as I am not sure if you are researching as a distant cousin, or just doing it for someone else.
Best regards,
Lesley (cousin?)
