Peter Virtue b1801 Wishart? Scotland married Marion Wilson b 1802 Glasgow, Scotland immigrated to Melbourne, Australia on the SS Ariadne 1839. Peter Virtue's father was John Virtue married to Elizabeth Hill. Can Anyone help with directions or information on tracking down birth details/marriage details of Peter Virtue as I'm sure he was not the only child of the family

Peter Virtue in Melbourne 1837.
It was in the year 1835 that John Batman, from Tasmania, sailed up the Yarra, and chose a place for a new settlement. Less than four years after, in 1838, the first Baptist services were held in a tent, lent by Messrs. Miller and Virtue, storekeepers, and pitched where the “Argus” office now stands. The services were conducted by Mr. Peter Virtue and Mr. James Wilson.

In Mining Report page 15, March 1885, Maryborough Division report is by Mr Peter Virtue, Mining Registrar.

The ship "Ann Dashwood"

John IRVING on the Irvine page, with Elizabeth GRISDALE and their family immigrated 16 June 1853 in Liverpool, England aboard ship Ann Dashwood. Destination: Melbourne. They arrived on 10 October 1853 and camped for a few weeks near where the Melbourne University now stands.
From the Baxter page we learn
Patrick Duncan Baxter arrived in Australia on November 18th, 1853, as a crew member of the "Ann Dashwood" an 872 ton sailing ship, which sailed from Liverpool, England for Port Phillip in the Colony of Victoria on June 16th, 1853, under the command of Captain W. Brumwell. There were 381 passengers in steerage, four cabin passengers and a general cargo of rock salt and tobacco. After arriving at Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope, she took on a further 11 passengers before departing for Port Phillip. Arrived in Australia with 446 passengers
The ship’s passenger list shows that Patrick held the position of " Ships Surgeon" (this does not necessarily mean that the person holding the position was a doctor). His signature appears on the passenger list as having conducted regular musters of the passengers during the voyage.

Hi Elizabeth, Noticed on your site that you have the wrong Thomas re marriage to Mary Harriet Pearson. I have thoroughly researched this Vivash family & have copies of original records including BMD's, family photos, census records etc.

Thomas Vivash was born 6 Feb 1854, Deptford. He was the eldest son of John Vivash and Margaret (nee Dillon White) of Deptford. Thomas arrived Australia circa 1877 (possibly worked his way on the 'Kent'). He was employed by the Victorian Railways.

His marriage record - Thomas Vivash, Bachelor, age 25, Labourer. Birthplace Kent, England, parents John Vivash (labourer) and Margaret Dillon, married Mary Harriet Pearson, Spinster, age 18. Birthplace St. Kilda (Vic.), parents John Pearson (cook) and Margaret Fitzgerald, on the 7th July 1880 by dispensation according to the rite of the Catholic Church at Emerald Hill, ( Vic.) They were living 1883 at 11 Fowler's Buildings, Grant Street, Emerald Hill before moving to St. Vincent street-west in 1884.

Thomas died from Typhoid Fever after a duration of illness of five weeks on the 19th April 1896. The week before his death he made out his Will.

"This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Vivash of No.84 St. Vincent Street, South Melbourne, Railway Employee. After payment of all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses I give devise and bequeath unto my dear wife Mary Harriet Vivash the whole of the real and personal estate which I am possessed of at the time of my death and I appoint my said wife the sole Executrix of this my Will. Dated this 12th day of April 1896 - (signed) Thomas Vivash - Signed by the said Testator Thomas Vivash as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as attesting witnesses - John Nolan, 408 Collins St., Melbourne, Solicitor - M. Moynihan, St. Vincent St. S.M".

He married 7 July 1880 to Mary Harriet Pearson, daughter of John Pearson & Margaret Fitzgerald. Mary died 1901 Lilydale.
