George Hicks Terrill

From on Friday, 25 September, 2009
Dear Elizabeth, I have just seen your website and the reference to my great grandfather George Hicks Terrill. He actually had 12 children. The eldest child was Elizabeth Terrill who married William Wilson and Mary (Mrs Thomson) was the second daughter. My grandmother, Emma Watsford Terrill was his 12th child. All the details of his descendants, up until 1972, are contained in my mother’s publication “ The Terrill Family Tree” by Edith Amelia Matheson. You have certainly put a huge amount of work into this website and it was most interesting to see it.
Thank you for your prompt and interesting reply. I have just checked some details. Elizabeth Ann Terrill was born on 4th August, 1855 at Cape Bridgewater. She married William Wilson, a native of Dalkeith, Scotland, on 1st October, 1974. They had a total of 11 children, with 7 being born up to 1888. Mary Thomson and her husband Samuel had a total of 13 children. Martha Terrill, born July 17, 1859 at Cape Bridgewater, married John(Soren) Wickman who was Danish. My mother does not appear to have a date for this marriage. Her only son, John was born around 1902. George Terrill, their brother, did indeed marry Isabella Smith at Longwarry in Gippsland on October 1888. Thomas Terrill married Lilian Fox in approximately 1887(again I do not have an accurate date, but their first child was born in 1888) All of the rest of the family married at later dates and Edith Amelia Terrill never married. Unfortunately, I do not have any extra information on Willie Wilson, Great Aunt Lizzie's husband. Regards Esther V.Davies

Bernard Theos wed 1879 #3760 to Mathilda Beaupeurt. He died aged 42 from Bright's Disease 8 Oct 1887 and is buried in grave No 5309, Pleasant Creek Cemetry.

I am told Bernard Theos came from Le Havre, Calais, France to Victoria with Maurice Caneau (or Kaneau) and Monsieur Trouitt, who brought vine cuttings and set up the great Western Winery.
On 20 Oct 1992 I checked the 1884 Vic Trade Directory for supportive details. I found Jean Pierre Trouette and Emile Blampied are Vignerons of the Great Western at Stawell.
I then checked the Pioneers Index and found Jean Pierre Trouette wed Anne Blampied 1856 ref 1495. Jean Pierre died in 1885 aged 52 and his son Nicholas Bartholomy Trouette died aged 26 in 1886 #1665, when his mother's full name is given as Maria Francoise Blampied.

I found no mention of Kaneau (did not think of looking for Caneau).
