From on 8 July, 2010

Hello Elizabeth I have read with great interest your pages on the Sutch family who emigrated to Australia in the 1800s. I am a Great x 4 Grandson of James Sutch & Christiana Utting (the parents of the Sutch offspring who migrated to Australia) back here in the UK. Your information is helping me in my family research.

I am currently investigating the Australian Sutch line and to say the least it is very confusing particularly when you consider the antics of John Sutch who married Ellen Ryan in Melbourne in 1838 ! I am glad to see from your web page that I have not been the only one to get confused !! I am making slow but sure progress and will be in possession of a few certificates in the next month or so which will allow me to firm-up some details - I am particularly referring to which children belonged to which mother and who married who and when etc ! I have found John Sutch's Death Cert to be of great help - if nothing else it helped confirm one or two views I had formed about my relative !!

I am happy to share any new information I get if you think it will be of help to you - I can also give you information regarding Christiana Utting's family in England (I can take her back a couple of generations) if it is of any help to you. I can also provide a couple of family lines leading to Sutch descendants in Victoria today - again , if it is of any help.

Please let me know if I can help otherwise I will leave you to get on with a difficult task !!!

Regards, Philip M Martin

More on Sunday, 24 June 2012, Hello Elizabeth
I have some information to enable you to update your valuable web site. It concerns William Utting Sutch, b 1819 Woolwich, Kent. He married Mary Ann Mitchell.
Your web site has William & Mary with 14 Children. However, it does say that records need to be checked for more than one Sutch family in the Woolwich/Greenwich area . I can tell you now that there were other Sutch families in the area, all related of course, and one of them was that of my Great Great Grandfather Thomas Joseph Sutch, brother of said William Utting Sutch.
Three of the children listed as belonging to William Utting Sutch & Mary actually belong to other folk as follows:-
1. Esther Ann Sutch b 1854 is my Great Grandmother and is the daughter of Thomas Joseph Sutch.
2. George Thomas Sutch b 1849 is the son of Thomas Joseph Sutch.
3. Samuel Sutch b 1845 was in fact Samuel Utting Sutch, b1 March 1845 in Henry Street, Woolwich. He was the illegitimate son of Christiana Utting Sutch ( b 1824 Woolwich) , sister of William Utting Sutch. Samuel was one of our family mysteries until the birth certificate cleared up the confusion. No father was listed on the Certificate!
From The family of James Sutch & Christiana Utting only William Utting Sutch, Thomas Joseph Sutch and Samuel Henry Sutch did not migrated to Australia whereas John Utting Sutch ; James Sutch; Christiana Utting Sutch; Sophia Utting Sutch; Charlotte Elizabeth Sutch; Sarah Hannah Sutch; Emily Utting Sutch plus Christiana's son did migrate !
I hope this is of help to you, Kind Regards, Philip M Martin ( GGG Grandson of James Sutch & Christiana Utting)
