Richard Standfield

From on Tuesday, 31 March, 2009

Hello again Elizabeth,
I note your comment re. the Stanfield registrations. In my research of many years I have found that there are various Standfield families with various spellings of the name - Stansfield being one of the families; incidentally very common in England.
The first error, as far as I'm concerned is the Wesley added to Thomas' name - it really bugs me ; >)). I have certificates from births to deaths & other papers and NO WHERE is Wesley mentioned. I don't know where this came from, perhaps because he was a strict Methodists and a Lay Preacher someone has tagged it on. Thomas is my husband John "Jack" Standfield's great-grandfather.
The very big mistake is William Robert; I'm afraid that information is completely incorrect and the details are of William Elliott Standfield (I think born in England), who died in England whilst visiting there - can't just recall when. "Our" William Robert was Bap? 09 May 1851 born at Drysdale or Geelong; he died 30 Jul 1919 at Fish Creek, Victoria; he married Victoria HUXTABLE and they had eleven children.
Thomas and Mary STANDFIELD were born at Haselbury Plucknett, Somerset, England, and arrived in Australia with their parents in 1848 on the 'Blonde". After Richard and Rebecca died on the same day from dysentery they were buried in Geelong; probably the same unmarked grave in an unknown area of the (Eastern?) Cemetery. After Richard's death Elizabeth and Robert spent some time in an orphanage in Geelong, don't know where Thomas and Mary were. Thomas would have been 11 and Mary about 10. I think Jane must have 'played-up' a bit as she is mentioned in a book about naughty women and strumpets! - I can't recall the name.
Jane STANDFIELD died at Ararat, but it is not possible to say it is definitely "our" Jane (I think it is!) as our Jane remarried a Mos ELEFSON. Have never found his death, but from hospital records I think he may have taken on the Standfield name.
I have been told that Alexander PIGDON was born before Sarah married Henry Pigdon and his father was ? RUTHERFORD so I have him listed as Rutherford Pigdon - but that is purely hearsay not to be quoted as fact. If there is any that I can help please let me know.
Cheers, Lorraine Standfield.
