William Simpkin

From on Wed, 12 Apr 2006

I have just found your web site and in particular your details of William Simpkin 1825. William is younger brother of Mary 1810 (my Great, Great Grandmother). There are 7 children that we are aware of, William being the 6th.

Update Sat, 30 Jun 2007
We have just returned from a trip to the UK where we spent quite some time in Rillington. During our trip, we were shown a will belonging to Mary Preston's father Thomas in which he left his grandchildren and step-grandchildren amounts of money.
William Simpkin So we can definitely say that William's mother is Mary Preston and that she married John Simpkin (my Great, Great, Great Grandfather) after he already had four children with his first wife, Mary Ruston. Mary's father Thomas Preston was the proprietor of the Coach & Horses Pub in Rillington. We were shown a tin with documents including the will, which were found in Rillington during some renovations. Attached is a picture we have of William Henry's son William c1846. The picture is from Queenscliff in 1913. Also attached is a photo of the Coach&Horses in Rillington.
Mary Preston Born 15th March 1788 Wintringham (a few miles from Rillington) - Father is Thomas Preston, mother Mary Wilson. They had 9 children (one died as a baby). Mary's sister Frances was the second wife of my Great, Great Grandfather John Green also from Rillington.
Mary's brother John Preston (Master Mariner and the youngest of the 9 children) was the first light house keeper at Point Lonsdale.
Maggie.
