The Daily News (Perth, WA : 1882 - 1950) Friday 27 December 1929 "Caused Death of Two Men"
As a sequel to a collision with a furniture van, Edward James Thornhill, an electrical engineer, of Bellingham road, Catfbrd, was sentenced to six months' Imprisonment for manslaughter, at the Old Bailey recently (according to the London 'Dally Mirror.') It was stated that in Bromky-road, Catford, Thornhill's car ran into the back of a stationary van, behind which the two men In charge, William Frederick Waller and Frederick Sheldrake, were standing, attending to the rear light. They were pinned between the two vehicles and fatally injured. 'I am more than ready to believe,' said the Judge, 'that to a man of your excellent character the fact that you, by your gross negligence, killed two men is worse to you than even the verdict of the jury or the punishment which must follow.'
