The Larpent was the first ship chartered under a J. D Lang immigration scheme which arrived in Geelong in 1849. J.D.Lang purchased land in Australia then returned to England and sold the land in ten and twenty acre farms with a passage to Australia to these The Larpent passengers. Ian Wynd died before he finished writing a book on J D Lang's Immigration Scheme - 3 ships to Vic, 3 to Qld, and some passengers on a ship to NSW. There is a book called The Larpent- The Tale of a Ship and a Distict by Kathryn Purnell. It was published by the Larpent School in 1989. I believe the Colac Family History group have a copy. It tells about the Ship, its journey and the people on board who later settled the area near Colac which they called Larpent.

' Comment - The Herald of the Morning has brought out about 460 emigrants, classed as follows : 48 married couples, 22 single men, 239 single women, and 103 children. About Ricketts, William
C of E Comp. B 1544 William & Mary Ann left London on the 6th. July 1854 travelling on the Emigrant sailing for Adelaide. On the 9th September, when the ship was off the coast of Africa, Christine was born and her middle name Oceana is attributed to this birth at sea. The family arrived in Adelaide on October 24th 1854 and the family group included two small boys Charles and Henry. Charles died the following year on June 11 1855. The next son John was born in Richmond on September 17 1857 so the family must have travelled to Melbourne between those two dates probably by ship.

About Cline, Mary Ann
Probate & Will 28 P2 820 , 28 P0 1354 , 7591 P2 414 104/799On the 12th July 1907 Mary Ann had a will made. As she died soon after, Mary Ann may have known her life would be short lived at that time. A property at number 1 Verity Street was left to John Ricketts her son. A property at 187 Coppin Street was left to William Thomas Ricketts. Florence was left a watch and chain. Christine the balance of jewellery. Mary Ann left her sister Emily the sum of twenty pounds. The grave at Kew contains grandson Charles who died in 1896 aged 10. In the next aisle ( no. 1570 ) we have the graves of five of the children: Henry, Alice Maude, Henry Augustus, Charles & Edward. The gravestone reads ; The memory of the [ could not read ] children of William & Mary Ann Ricketts. Not lost but gone before.
