Hello Elizabeth. I have stumbled across your web site whilst researching my family. I have inherited an old Parsons Family Bible which dates back to William and Mary Parsons (Ely). They were my great great grandparents. Your records show they had 2 daughters Louisa Bertha and Martha Elizabeth. Their respective husbands are also noted. Louisa and George Anstee actually had 5 children. William Parsons Anstee was their 1st and he was killed in Gallipoli in Nov 1915. I have the letter which was written to George Anstee informing him of his son’s death. George and Bertha also had Frances George Anstee 1889 – 1925; Charles Henry Gordon Anstee 1890 – 1943; Mary Faulkner Anstee (Virgo) 1895 – 1988ish and my grandmother Gladys Alexandra Anstee (Curtis) 1901 – 1985. I contacted Martha Elizabeth Parsons (Notman) great grandson Geoffrey Notman from Skipton and he is willing to help me with his side. If you are interested in any of this I would be more than happy to forward the information once I have it all gathered? Yours sincerely Lyn Fraser

Hi Elizabeth. Well, I am now subscribed to Ancestry.com!
I have received a copy of William’s and Mary’s marriage entry from the Victorian Registry Office. They were married on March 29th 1858 at St Pauls Church Geelong. William was from Derby, was a shoemaker aged 31. His parents were William Parsons (also a shoemaker) and Sarah Johnson.
I researched them and found they were married on 22nd April 1822 at St Nicholas Nottingham England. I went to the UK BDM site. I then found a birth of a William Parsons (father William and mother Sarah) in Derby on 10th January 1827. My Bible indicates he was born in January 1825 but the 1825 has been written over and not the original pen so I am thinking 1827 is correct (given he was 31 in 1858).
Mary’s parents were William Eley (or sometimes spelt Ely) and Elizabeth Faulkner (or Faulkener). They were married on 12th March 1822 in Kirk Langley Derby England. The Bible indicates Mary was born in Langley on Feb 6th 1823 and that is the original pen. However, on the marriage register it says she was also 31! I found a record of Mary Ely (parents William and Elizabeth) baptised at Kirk Langley Derby England on 12th Feb 1823. She obviously didn’t like being older than her husband!
I also found a George Parsons born and Baptised at the same Church as William with parents William and Sarah. He was born in Derby on 27th May 1829. Surely this is William’s brother.

Mary Ely christening 12 Feb 1823 dau of Elizabeth and William Ely at Kirk Langley, Derby, England
Mary Ely aged 34 came 15 Mar 1858 on the Merchant Prince ship, 1745 tons, Commander JL McLay, from Liverpool 5 Dec with 470 Government emigrants, EW Doman Esq., Surgeon Superintendent, De Pass Bros and Co Agents.
William Parsons born 27 Jan 1825 son of William Parsons at Derby, wed 29 Mar 1858 #154 to Mary Eley/Ely born 6 Feb 1823, dau of William Ely at Langley, UK and lived at Linton Digging, Skipton
2 Children 1. Louisa Bertha Parsons 1859 #19287
2. Martha Elizabeth Parsons 1861 #14125
1. Louisa Bertha Parsons 1859 #19287 wed 1886 #6579 to George Anstee
2. Martha Elizabeth Parsons 1861 #14125 wed 1885 #6707 to Matthew Notman from Dumfries Shire

Elizabeth, First up, I gave a bit of misinformation. Ralph Oswald Ellingworth died in WWI in France, not at Gallipoli. I had the wrong Great Uncle in mind (as you will see below)

Hello Elizabeth
I found some information on your website for Parson-Watson family who are my husband's ancestors. We had some of it but you helped me fill in some detail and go back a generation further for Watson plus some of the story was great. It fits with what we knew but helps fill in the story a little bit more specifically.
Jean Parson
