I have researched my line back to the marriage of Wm Hunter PEERS grandparents in 1763 in Stockport Cheshire. I have every baptism and death of their 13 children and have traced descendants in England, NZ, USA and Australia. There are no births, marriages or deaths at Birmingham. My line lived in Stockport (mill owners) and Liverpool (cotton and ship brokers). The Liverpool cotton brokers lived across the Mersey in New Brighton. House still standing. Family is easy to trace via business papers, bdms in the Liverpooll Mercury back to 1800, headstones in cemeteries in Liverpool, Birkenhead and Wallasey. I also have Cerys post 1837.
Wm Hunter PEERS did not emigrate to Aus only his wife Janet PEERS new GRIMES and their four children including John Grimes PEERS and my great grandfather Frederick William PEERS. Janet was a teacher of singing and music and emigrated to take up a position at the Scots Church school in Collins Street. Her brother Henry GRIMES was a surveyor and mining registrar and was employed by the Colony of Vic post 1852 at Stawell Ararat and Beechworth.
Sarah Leadbetter 1843-1924, wed John Grimes Peers 1866 in Stringers Creek, VIC. He was born 1841, Liverpool, Lancashire [#1/4 1841 West Derby 20/921] and died 1886 in Bairnsdale, VIC. 8 children

The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1957) Monday 16 May 1853
May 15.-Sea, ship, 840 tons, J. McKay, from Liverpool February 10th, in ballast. Passengers-cabin: Mrs. Sandie and child, and three hundred and eighty-two Government immigrants in the steerage. J. G. Sandie, Esq., surgeon superintendent. Marshall and Kirk, agents.
The Ship "Sea # Captain James McKay commander, arrived Williamstown last night from Liverpool, after a very pleasant passage of 90 days under the care of Dr. John Gray Lundie, surgeon. She carries 380 immigrants, who have been kept in excellent health since the day of their embarkation. The mortality has been very slight, only 7 having died. Five children have been born and their mothers have recovered very rapidly.
In latitude 5.24 south, and 15.5 west longitude the barque Mary Anne, bound from Madras to London, was spoken with.
In latitude 27.46 south, and longitude 7.15 west, a most melancholy incident occurred. At 11.30 p.m., as the ship was pitching into a head sea, the main-top-gallant-mast was carried away. Two hands were aloft at the time, and one of them was the Captain's brother. Without one moment's warning, he fell overboard, while his companion was saved by getting foul amongst the rigging. After throwing a life-buoy, a boat was lowered immediately and manned by the Captain, boatswain, and four seamen. Their search was fruitless, a watery grave having already closed over him, in spite of all the promptitude and energy employed to save him. He was much respected by the passengers, and beloved by his fellows. His untimely end plunged all in the deepest grief, and for many days there was much lamentation.

Camperdown Chronicle (Vic. : 1877 - 1954) (about) Thursday 28 September
A peculiar case engaged the attention of the magistrate at the last Colac Police Court. The: plaintiff was Edward Thomas Pekin, and the defendant Patrick Pekin, a brother, who was charged with unlawful assault.
From the evidence it appeared that last week the defendant, a partial cripple, ran amok at Larpent, and bailed up the other members of the family. He endeavoured to obtain possesion of the house, and for a while succeeded in his object by the aid of his crutches. In the melee plaintiff was struck on the head, and, the assistance of the police having been secured, defendant was taken to the lock-up. Mr.Hancock, who appeared for the plaintiff, said the defendant's father was willing to take him back on condition that he was bound over, to keep the peace.
The defendant was then bound over to keep the peace for twelve months in his own recognisance of 20.
