Hi Elizabeth, Paul Barrett has recommended I talk to you. I met Paul while researching the company Oxley and Beamish, brickmakers of Toronto in the 1830s and 1840s. I was more interested in the Beamish, and I was trying to figure out how they were connected to the Oxley (still some mysteries there)
I have tons of records about Richard Oxley and Anne Jane Crothers. They were married in a church called Little Trinity, an Anglican church in the Corktown area of Toronto. They have some children baptized there and also one baby died as well.
Anyway, I have quite a bit of material about the origins of this branch that I gathered over the years. Richard Oxley sued in his uncle's estate after the death for some property. I have his uncle's will where he names his 2 brothers George, father of Richard, and Robert, ,and 2 sisters, Frances, wife of Robert Long who is buried in Toronto, and I can't remember the other sister, but I don't know who she married.
Anne Jane Crothers was actullay born in Quebec, or at least baptized there. Her father was also involved in brickmaking, but he was also a constable in the police and was quite involved in politics, especially Orange Lodge. My belief is that he was a soldier before.
His widow, Mary Ann Slater Crothers remarried a Brockwell but she is buried with her first husband in St.James Cemetery in Toronto. There is a stone for a son who drowned, but not for them, but I got the burial record.

I am interested in Toronto people who left Toronto for Australia especially the Gold Rush

From on Wednesday, 11 May 2016,
Good morning Elizabeth,
Last night we discovered your web site about Richard and Ann Jane Oxley. Congratulations on a great effort. I am a great grand daughter of Esther Hawksley/Oxley. Her second husband (and first cousin!) was John Long. My grandfather, Robert Long, was the first of their six boys. John Long’s mother was Frances Hawklsey, sister of Robert. Back in 1996 I “published” for (family use only) the story of my grandparents, “Robert Long and Emma Helliar, their forbears, kinfolk and descendants”. My story is largely based on my father’s memories, although we have many names and dates of his aunts, uncles and cousins, and he knew many of them. He also knew his grandparents, particularly his father’s parents who died (c. 1917/19) when Dad was 15/17.
Dad was proud of the family stories of both his parents, we grew up hearing them often.
We went to a Hawksley/Oxley reunion at St Arnaud in 1974 (or 1975?). I think I would be correct in saying that only Richard Oxley used that surname. I have recorded Maria, Robert, Esther, George and Sarah with the surname of Hawksley, also that of their father Robert. His first wife was Esther Wallace, his second was Margaret Carroll, mother of George and Sarah. In the early 1990s, when Dad was about 90 years old, I started recording those stories, contacting various cousins for their information. I sent copies of the finished story to about 30 relatives, including to at least one representative from almost all of the descendants of George and Esther, George and Margaret Hawksley.
Late in the 1990s I chanced to meet John (Jack) and Lorna Oxley, and subsequently twice later. I showed them my story, and they showed me a lot of their Oxley family information. I roughly corrected my record of Richard and Ann Jane’s family, but the page is rather a mess, and I’m so glad to have your record to correct mine. Last year I was in contact with Lorna Oxley (John has died), who put me onto George Oxley who has sent me more information.
At last I am revising and correcting my story, for 20 years have revealed quite a number of mistakes, typos, and awkward style.
It really is wonderful to have this further connection to our family, also to Guylaine Morenz/ Petrin in Toronto, and Marilyn Furness. I hope to be in touch with Guylaine to see if she knows any more about the lives of the Long family in Toronto, after their arrival from Ireland when John was a baby.
Thank you so much, Sincerely, Margaret Davis (nee Long)
Wonderful.
I found Sarah Hawksley listed as arriving in Melbourne in Feb 1863, when she was aged 15, on the vessel Ivanhoe.
She is listed with George Hawksley aged 18.
I found them both listed in Victorian marriages:- Saarah Hawksley from King's County, wed in 1867 #1208 to William Bond.
George Hawksley from Kings County, wed in 1871 #2776 to Frances Maria Heffern.
Earlier marriages are listed, Henrietta Hawksley in 1853 #954 to William McIlroy was the first after Victoria separated from New South Wales.
I found the death of one of Sarah's children,
Arabella Maria Wearne, died in Caulfield, 1870 #2116 - 1964 #26085 aged 95, second daughter of Sarah Hawksley and William Bond.
They had 5 children, daughters Emma Bond 1868 and Arabella Maria Bond 1870 born at Dunolly, a son John Frederick Bond born 1873 who lived 1 year, and then Tryphena Margaret Bond 1882 and Constance Violet Bond 1886 registered at Eddington
