I note that you have TJW Matthews dying in 1898 aged 10. Bit hard for him to be mums father!! According to my info he died in 1951 and is buried at Melbourne General Cemetery. He married Elva Ann Tyres (b 1892 Talbot d 1968 Creswick) in 1912
They had 5 children, mum is the only one still alive.
Thomas and Elva were divorced and Thomas married Constance Eliza Martin (d 1962)

Peter has 3 children Nicole, Jaqui and Cameron.
So I guess Cameron is the hope for Peter Mathew/Emma Cundall line to continue.

Checking the CD to 1888, knowing Peter Matthews gave Cornwall as his birthplace, I found other Cornwall birthplaces as helpful -

Hi, My name is Geoff Matthews, son of John E., son of William T., son of John E. who married Mary Sloan --- I have a photo of Mary. A photo of John Edmond Matthews taken in 1863 is in the Dunolly Town Hall. I was trying to find where Robert Matthews father of John E. Matthews was buried (about 1862) he was a convict –shipped out 1823 on the Competitor to Van Diemans Land when I came across your site. Best regards Geoff

Ann's Free Pardon was approved 7 Oct 1842. In the Tasmanian records she is Ann Waters for births of the children.

Robert Matthews, one of 160 convicts transported on the Competitor, 18 March 1823. Sentence details: Felony, Convicted at Bristol City Session of Peace Oyer and Terminer and Gaol Delivery for a term of 14 years. The Competitor departed 18 March 1823 and arrived 03 Aug 1823 in Van Diemen's Land. Hobart Town Gazette and Van Diemen’s Land Advertiser Saturday 9 August 1823, Page 2, top left corner, records the arrival of the Competitor, Captain Ascough having on board 157 male convicts. The prisoners were landed on 7 Aug and inspected by the Lieutenant Governor, and thirty were assigned to Port Dalrymple. The Surgeon Superintendant, Clayton, died at sea, on 8 July. 3 convicts had died at sea and 3 were still sick. The 1st Officer is Mr CW Constable, the 2nd Officer is Mr J Vallancy, and Mr J Twohy id the 3rd Officer of the Competitor. Captain Tronson of His Majesty's 13th Light Infantry (commanding the guard), Lady and family, Mr Uniake Esq. and Miss Blachford were on board. On Saturday 23 August 1823, the Ship News announced that the Competitor will sail for Sydney tomorrow.
The Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser, Thursday 4 September 1823, reported the arrival of the Competitor, with the military guard. On 11 September 1823 the Sydney Gazette announced that the Competitor was about to leave, warning creditors to present all their claims and petitions (this is a routine announcement)

There are very few details in Tas records for Robert Matthews. He is number 416, Page 143, worked as a bullock drover for Edward French. His Ticket of Leave, in The Hobart Town Courier Friday 24 August 1832 is shown as "Robert Matthews, 416, do." (third came by Competitor). The Cornwall Chronicle, Launceston, Tas. : Saturday 16 April 1836 has a list headed Certificates of Freedom, including Robert Matthews, Competitor, 15th ditto (April)

My grandmother was Rose Oldmeadow, and her mother Alice Maud Oldmeadow. One of Alice's sister's was Mary Emily Oldmeadow. Most of the stories I know of are the Oldmeadows from St Arnaud, Dunolly and Williamstown and Ringwood (Vic, Australia) Rose had no father listed, and at some point worked as an usherette in Williamstown in a picture theatre.

I do not know if we have the same Thomas Matthews or not, the one I am researching is the one who arrived on the ship "Joseph Soames" in Geelong, 1847. He married a Mary O'Boyle (born Newry, Ireland) in 1852. They moved to Tallangatta area, and had 13 children : William, John, Charles, Mary, George, Alice, Thomas (my wife's grandfather) Emily, Gideon, Catherine, Joseph & Matilda. These are all in a photo copy of a pic, daughter Elizabeth was missing from the pic.
If you think they are the same, let me know & I can send more info for you.

Thomas Matthews - Parents both dead. Father had been a soldier, lived at Bath after his discharge, died in 1836. Mother died in 1838. She left some money for a neighbour of hers to support Prisoner & his Brother. This person sent them to school and treated them kindly as long as the money lasted. Then she put them into the Union Workhouse. Prisoner remained there about 4 years. Ran away with some other boys, went to work on the railroad for nearly 3 years, earned 5/- a week, remained there till the work was finished, after which he was taken into the Bath Union again, was employed to work in the garden there. Had been at the National School and could read pretty well at the time. Was twice in prison for running away from the Workhouse. After his release the second time he was employed at a dairy for nearly 18 months. Had also been imprisoned 7 days for stealing a pair of books during which time the Chaplain of the Gaol became acquainted with him & employed him as a servant. After his release from Prison, remained in Mr Osbourn’s service twelve months the robbed his Master of a Watch and other articles was apprehended and tried at the Sessions, convicted & sentenced to 10 years Transportation.

Architect Thomas Matthews was the subject of an extensive Life Story, in the 'Prahan Telegraph', 16 Jan 1892. He was born 2 June 1821 at Harefield, Middlesaex, England, and trained with his father as an architect. He married in 1845 and in 1847 the family sailed to South Africa where he was engaged for 5 years building houses for the settlers. In 1852 the family returned to England to bid farewell to their relatives and then sailed to Melbourne, where he designed and supervised the building of many residences, since 1874 concentrating on homes in Prahran

Indeed my grandfather was Robert Leslie and I have his birth certificate and marriage certificate. He died in Durban South Africa because his father Robert William took him and about 4 sons to fight in the Boer war (don't Australians love fighting other peoples wars?) - 2 came back and they are still in Victoria and the 2 that stayed there including Robert Leslie was why I was born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) to my father Robert Bradley born in Durban, South Africa 1929 , who died 2 years ago in South Africa in Port Alfred.
