I knew that Mum's father, Thomas William John Matthew's father was Peter and his mother was Emma Cundall and lo and behold ..you have stacks of info on them.
Thank you!!!
I note that you have TJW Matthews dying in 1898 aged 10. Bit hard for him to be mums father!! According to my info he died in 1951 and is buried at Melbourne General Cemetery. He married Elva Ann Tyres (b 1892 Talbot d 1968 Creswick) in 1912
They had 5 children, mum is the only one still alive.
Thomas and Elva were divorced and Thomas married Constance Eliza Martin (d 1962)
Hope this isn't confusing to you.
6. Thomas William Jonathan Matthews 18 Aug 1888, born Eaglehawk, baptised Llanelly, died in 1951 and is buried at Melbourne General Cemetery.
He married Elva Ann Tyres (b 1892 #27767 Talbot d 1968 Creswick, daughter of Edith Elizabeth Buchanan and Frederick James Tyers) in 1912
5 Children Alma, Violet, Edith, Olive, and William.
William married Dorothy Jones and had 2 children - Valda and Peter.
Peter has 3 children Nicole, Jaqui and Cameron.
So I guess Cameron is the hope for Peter Mathew/Emma Cundall line to continue.

Checking the CD to 1888, knowing Peter Matthews gave Cornwall as his birthplace, I found other Cornwall birthplaces as helpful -
George Matthews wed 1882 #1976 to Margaret Jane Penberthy
James Matthews wed 1885 #6597 to Elizabeth Stevens
but Sarah does not appear as simple, as I do not think she was wed at age 15
There is a death of John Matthews from Cornwall, aged 54 registered 1874 #2058 son of James and Alice, where the age fits.

2. George Matthews wed 1882 #1976 to Margaret Jane Penberthy 1860 #2419 daughter of Margaret White Woolcock and William Penberthy born in Ballarat, no known children to 1888
4. James Matthews wed 1885 #6597 to Elizabeth Stevens born in Cornwall, worked as a Carter in Long Gully, Bendigo

My grandmother was Rose Oldmeadow, and her mother Alice Maud Oldmeadow. One of Alice's sister's was Mary Emily Oldmeadow. Most of the stories I know of are the Oldmeadows from St Arnaud, Dunolly and Williamstown and Ringwood (Vic, Australia) Rose had no father listed, and at some point worked as an usherette in Williamstown in a picture theatre.

Thomas Matthews and Mary Boyle

From on Monday, 2 August, 2010
Hi Elizabeth,
I do not know if we have the same Thomas Matthews or not, the one I am researching is the one who arrived on the ship "Joseph Soames" in Geelong, 1847. He married a Mary O'Boyle (born Newry, Ireland) in 1852. They moved to Tallangatta area, and had 13 children : William, John, Charles, Mary, George, Alice, Thomas (my wife's grandfather) Emily, Gideon, Catherine, Joseph & Matilda. These are all in a photo copy of a pic, daughter Elizabeth was missing from the pic.
If you think they are the same, let me know & I can send more info for you.
Thanks, Phil Smailes

Hi Elizabeth – sending from my home email address now... Thank you so much - this is fun.
Indeed my grandfather was Robert Leslie and I have his birth certificate and marriage certificate. He died in Durban South Africa because his father Robert William took him and about 4 sons to fight in the Boer war (don't Australians love fighting other peoples wars?) - 2 came back and they are still in Victoria and the 2 that stayed there including Robert Leslie was why I was born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) to my father Robert Bradley born in Durban, South Africa 1929 , who died 2 years ago in South Africa in Port Alfred.

Barton Barnaby Thearle birth Jul-Sep 1842 The district Isle of Wight spans the boundaries of the counties of Hampshire and Isle of Wight; Barton Barnaby Tharle wed Oct-Dec 1862 to Louisa Jane Bradley and came to Aust to arrive April 1864 on the Norfolk as Unassisted Inward Passengers
