Daniel started as a Miller, became a policeman and ended up running a pub in Chapel St Prahran.
I forgot to mention that in Daniel's grave at St Kilda is an Ellen Murphy died 10/7/1900 aged 65.
Her death is indexed as Ellen Murphy 1834 - 1900 #10464 aged 65, dau of Ellen Desmond and Unknown, died at Prahan.
Daniel's mother was Ellen and I think this Ellen must have been Daniel's sister but I have not been able to find her arrival.

Finding Daniel Murphy

Not 'this family' - Patrick Murphy aged 33 came June 1856 on the Ocean Monarch as Assisted british Immigrants, with wife Alice 21 and infant Thomas, also on this ship are Judith aged 33, Daniel 13, and Betsy 29, Margaret 23, Margaret 21, Catherine 21, Bridget 20, and Ellen 20. This Daniel appears too young to be aged 26 in 1868
Maybe this is the correct arrival - Daniel Murphy aged 18 came Nov 1858 on the Champion Of The Seas
Eliza Mcsweeny/Mcswiney aged 23 came Oct 1865 on the Duke Of Newcastle as Assisted british Immigrants

Mary Ellen Murphy's Birth Certificate shows she was born 6 July 1868, the first child of her parents Daniel Murphy, a Miller aged 26 born in Cork, Ireland, and Eliza McSweeney aged 26 also from Cork, Ireland who were wed in Melbourne in 1867, and she was registered at Collingwood on 8 Aug 1868 by her mother, who signed her name.
Ethel's birth certificate shows Daniel aged 38 is now a Constable, Elizabeth is 36, their wedding date is 14 Sep 1867, and the family now lives at Donald St Prahran. Ethel was born on 27 Oct 1881 and registered by her mother on 28 Dec 1881 at Prahran
Elizth Murphy c1840 - 7 Aug 1901 #9603 aged 60, daughter of Jno Mcswiney and Mary OCallahan, died St Vincents Hospital, death registered at Fitz S, and 34 years in the colony
Following clues such as Elizabeth's death being registered in Fitzroy, and that she had beem married less years than expected if Daniel was still alive, a death certificate was selected, where the mother's name is indexed as Ellen. This certificate showed Danial Muurphy died at St Vincent's Hospital 7 Nov 1898 #16250, aged 55, and the Informant is Elizabeth Murphy, wife, birthplace Cork, and profession 'Miller' and 31 years in the colony. The down side is - no names of children.
