'Your Thomas' - Thomas Winning, wed Mary Moubray McAdam in 1880, had 4 children, and died 1899 aged 58, so born 1841. I found his death in the Argus, Fri 9 June 1899,
THE Friends of the late THOMAS WINNING - (of the firm of Messrs. A. J. Smith and Co.) are respectfully invited to follow his re- mains to the place of interment, the Melbourne General Cemetery.
The funeral is appointed to move from his late residence, No. 13 Morrah-street, Parkville, THIS DAY (Friday, 9th), at 3 o'clock. ALFRED ALLISON, Undertaker.

The arrival of the Adelaide is recorded in The Melbourne Argus (Vic. : 1846 - 1848) Friday 23 June 1848, and also in Geelong Advertiser (Vic. : 1847 - 1851) Saturday 24 June 1848. As you can see, in the Argus the story is good but arrival details are blurred. The Geelong Advertiser also records arrival, and a slightly different slant to the story.
Gaye comments -
How interesting were the obviously different views from the two towns. Well, the Adelaide must have indeed carried a superior type of serving class – James McAdam with his wife, Agnes went on to set up and run a “cordial” business. Apparently, my Mary Mowbray McAdam Winning remembered, as a young girl running to the cellar when an explosion was heard as this meant that some of the bottles had exploded with the result that the children could have the drinks as they were not able to be sold. Agnes apparently carried on the business after James died until her sons were old enough to decide whether to continue it.
James & Agnes also were founding members of College Presbyterian Church, Parkville, and gave substantial donations (somewhere I have a subscription card) to building it, and the family remained staunch supporters of that Church. When I was 16, my mother took me to Melbourne and showed me a plaque inside the church in honour of one of the family. Unfortunately, that was a long time ago and I cannot remember what it said. The church building has now been sold to another religious group and I don’t know whether the plaque would still be there.
Mary’s husband, Thomas Winning, had, I believe, at least two bookshops. One was in Melbourne CBD and the other, I think, was in Geelong. I believe that he was in the process of opening a third, possibly at Ballarat, when there was a financial crisis and unfortunately, shortly before his death, he lost the business.
This is all anecdotal, told to me by my mother, who heard it from her grandmother, Mary. I have not tried to verify it.
And in December Gaye wrote
You may or may not be interested in a family notice I discovered in The Argus, 4 February, 1854. Their son, James died, aged 2 yrs & 11 mths, at the home of Mr Matthew McCaw of Mooroolbark. I haven't discovered what he died of but note the family connection. James does not appear on your list of Agnes & James' children but he is on our family register. I assume that Catherine McAdam was James' sister and that she married Matthew McCaw soon after arriving in Victoria.
