Hi Elizabeth,
First thank you for a wonderfull website. I was surprised to find family members listed among your list.

If you don't mind would like to correct a couple to your listings for my family.
1. Richard Lawry arrived in Melbourne 24 Dec 1854 on the Champion of the Seas. He sailed with his sister Elizabeth and her husband Francis Cargeeg. He married Mary Baker at Fryers Creek before moving to Cape Otway to run a cattle station (now part of the Cape Otway National Park). They had 5 sons (one buried at Cape Otway Lighthouse).
a..William Lawry 1857 - 1918 (Geelong)..married Amy Matilda Daniel 1855 - 1950 (Geelong) (they had 10 children of which I am decended from the youngest)
b.. Thomas Richard Lawry 1859 - 1925..married 1: Annie Louisa Hewlett (2 children) 2: Emily Jane Walmsley (1 child)
c..Charles Hamilton Lawry 1861 - 1937
d..John Albert Lawry 1864 - 1866
e..Albert Francis Lawry 1872 - 1918, married 1902 to Amanda Eugenie Lamble

Richard Lawry was born 25 Nov 1823 (St Just in Penwith, Cornwall) to Thomas Lawry and Jane Penrose.
"Champion of the Seas" left Liverpool 10 Oct 1854 and arrived in Melbourne 24 Dec 1854. Was quarrentined for 3 days (due small pox). It also holds the record for the fastest sailing run from England to Australia of 72 days.
Mary Baker was born 12 Jan 1833 (Dinder, Somerset) to Charles Baker and Patience James and arrived in Australia in January 1855 on the Jan Van Hoorn

The 2nd point I would like to make is that Amy Matilda Daniel's parents
Giles Daniel and Jemima Wilkins were married 14 Mar 1853 at Little Scotland (Geelong) and had six girls and one boy. Giles arrived in Victoria in 1851 after 2 years in NSW. He returned to England in 1888 and married his sister in law Sarah Wilkins in Bristol, 1890.

I hope you won't be offended with this correction to your information especially about Richard Lawry. I believe the Richard Lawry you have with wife Elizabeth is a cousin whose father is John Lawry (brother to Thomas) and Mary Penrose. Elizabeth's surname would be Eastlake.

Again thank you for website I am enjoying browsing through it.
Robert Lawry

John Lawson

Thanks to who has researched this family.

John Lawson was born 1833 in Gilborne, Yorkshire and baptised 4 June 1835 as son of Margaret and William Lawson. The place in UK appears to be Gisburn, on the A59 and now in Lancaster just west of the Yorkshire border, with Skipton possibly the next nearest town. John died at Matlock aged 49, in 1882 #9236, and his parents names were remembered as William and Hannah Dean. There was no mention of his parents or brothers in the index to 1913.

The next step is to check the IGI held by the Mormons - International Geneological Index which started by focusing on recording baptisms and marriages in UK and now has spread out. Has Gisburn been recorded? If 'yes', then look for Lawson and Dean
At the moment it looks as if John was part of the gold rush era.

Elizabeth, originally from Wiggton, Scotland, died at Matlock 3 February 1909 aged 77 (I had 1907 #2165), when McKeand was remembered as her mother's surname. There are no appropriate McKeand entries in the indexes.

Most likely shipping arrival, judged by age, is John Lawson aged 24 arrived Oct 1856 on the Ocean Chief
