I have found your web page on Henry/Susan Hawken. I wish to correct some of your information. You have part of two different lines of Hawken. My grandmother was Mabel Emily, granddaughter of Henry and Susan.
To Henry/Susan: Henry was born in Pelynt, Cornwall 1829 to Henry/ Jane Matthews, wed Susan Coad 1853, Thomas was born 1854 and they emigrated to Sth Aust. 1855, and then on to Victoria in 1878.
If you contact Francis Albert (Bert) Hawken, address hidden you will get that line as he is part of it.
Your subsequent information on their family is correct but incomplete. As yet I have been unable to connect the two lines but the fact they both came from similar parts of Cornwall and if looks count for anything there should be, as the above mentioned Francis A Albert looks like “ our” Hawken’s.

Dear Elizabeth
Thanks for all the helpful material on your website. I am doing a onename study of the COADs of Cornwall which is now fairly complete.
Harry and Susan had one more child in South Australia.
Surname: HAWKINS, Given Names: Susan Jane Hawkins, Date: 1866-05-22, Sex: F
Father: Harry HAWKINS, Mother: Susan COADE, Birth Place/Residence: Port Elliot
Susanna was born 1826 Chacewater Truro, christened 23/3/1826 Kenwyn, daughter of Stephen Coad and Mary Ann Woolfe Richards. I have her lineage back to 1640. You can find her working as a servant in Truro in the 1841 and 1851 census. Not sure what Harry Hawkins, a Pelynt boy, was doing in Truro.
Her brother Stephen also emigrated to SA
Groom: COAD, Given names: Stephen, Bride: TERRILL, Given names: Mary Anne, Date: 1849-01-25
Groom Age: 25, Status: S, Groom's Father: [unrecorded]
Bride Age: 21, Status: S, Bride's Father: [unrecorded]

As theres no trace of him after this time, I presume he also moved on to Victoria.
Best wishes

William Hawkin

Received 13 Aug 2003 from Ray Bartlett, whose email bounced 28 Nov 2004
I am a grandson of Sarah Jane Hawken and Walter Bartlett. In my admittedly limited search of my family history I was under the impression that Sarah Jane was the daughter of a William Hawken and his wife Jane Anne Male. Sarah was born at Willunga SA in August 1862. I wonder if you could throw a little light on this for me ?
Sarah Jane had an uncle by the name of Thomas Hawken and he may be the link with the Samuel Coad Hawken line.

Found on the Ancestry message board from Gaye, posted 8 Jul 2002, now lost as email bounced
My G-G-Grandfather William HAWKEN came out from St Teath in Cornwall with his wife Jane Ann MALE to Australia settling in Melbourne where he died in 1905. My mother was born in Melbourne in 1938. We now live in the Northern Territory and would be happy to share any information that might be of use. Gaye

William Hawken and Jane Ann Male 1839 - 1923 #16371 aged 84, daughter of Harriett Percy and Francis Male died at Northcote, came to Emerald Hill, Victoria about 1875, with at least 4 children (Albert, Sarah Jane, Thomas and Willoughby). They had 9 children born at Willinga, SA
Possible death of William 1836 - 1905 #6400 aged 69, son of John Hawken and Sarah Bonney died at South Melbourne

William Hawken wed Jul-Sep 1855 to Jane Ann Male in the District of Camelford, Cornwall, Vol 5c, page 19
Jane Ann's birth is registered Jul-Sep 1839, she wed maybe on her 16th birthday to William. Looking at Ships to South Australia, I found the ship Royal Albert, 663 tons, Captain W. Panchard, from Plymouth 21st December 1856, arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia 29th March 1857. The Emigration Commisioner's Report for 1857 comments 'The lowest contract price for each adult's passage was that of the Royal Albert, at £12 19s. per head ; the total cost of this vessel to the colony for 231 statute adults embarked being £3,068,' and passengers include
William Wymond Hawken aged 20 Miner from Bodmin, Cornwall, with wife Jane aged 17 and a male infant born at Sea on 9 Feb 1857. Everything fits, except Jane's surname is believed to be Bawden. As an aside, 6 babies were born during the voyage, Jane had the only son, and one girl baby died.

From on Monday, 30 August, 2010
It looks like these two divorced,
Richard Morris was Emily’s father. On her second marriage certificate he is listed as her father, her last name is recorded as Hawken, and she is described as a widow. This is why I was shocked to see your entry that Albert William Bonear Hawken was alive in 1936.
Divorce was introduced in SA in 1858, see Divorce in Australia.

My ancestors came from Cornwall. My great-grandparents were William Henry Hawken and Mary Knight Hawken (nee Champion). William was a miner and came to the goldfields in South Australia around 1868. I don't know if there is any connection with you family, but would be interested to share any information if there is.
I am the family historian for one branch of the HAWKENs who migrated to Australia. Ours is from St Tudy and St Breward in Cornwall. John Hawken, son of John (a miller), immigrated in 1838 with wife Catharine Tom BARRETT. The BRYANTS from Cornwall are also tied up with my family.
Early Christian names used were Thomas, John, Jane, Joseph, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, William, Catherine, Anne. I know of a few other HAWKEN lines in Australia and have contact with a few of their descendants.
