Hello Elizabeth- thank you for all your tremendous research. I am a descendant of James Hoy and Elizabeth Doyle, Walter John Hoy/Ethel May Munzel on my father's side.
Did you know that Elizabeth Doyle was born in Melbourne in about 1843, to James Doyle and Mary Brody (Mary arrived from Ireland on the Royal Saxon in 1841) so she is one of the early arrivals(assisted) in Victoria. She came with her sister Catherine Maloney(Mahoney) and her husband. Mary was 18 at the time. I don't know when James Doyle arrived but I do know that they spent time at Beechworth and Forest Creek as well as Bendigo. James is reported as being involved in the Eureka Stockade and he took off back to Melbourne through the bush with his partner, somebody Ovens. James then took his family to Forest Creek. This is oral history from James' daughter, Elizabeth Hoy nee Doyle.
I believe that James Doyle was an Irishman who lived in London (oral history). I think that he may have been a convict who had served out his time and came to Melbourne for a new start after he had served his sentence. However, I have no proof of this and am trying to research this aspect of James Doyle's life. I haven't found his death certificate nor that of his wife, Mary.
You have made research interesting and easy for those of us who do not have the skills necessary to delve back in time. Thank you once again for the tremendous efforts.
Sincerely, Margaret Wilkie, nee Hoy.

I think this may be your James. James Dayle/Doyle, 22 single man Labourer RC both Limerick arrived 17 Feb 1842 from London and Cork on the Thetis
