Came upon your website quite by accident when looking up some information about my family’s arrival on the Bussorah Merchant in 1850.
I was interested in knowing how you came about the Hillard history. I am the grand daughter of John Beattie Hillard and Hannah Jane Margaret Mathewson. I can assure you that they had 8 children and not 3. I am the daughter of Herbert Mathieson Hillard who was their youngest son born in 1904 – 1966. Your report on the Hillards starts with Thomas but in fact his father and mother arrived in June 1850 on the Bussorah Merchant with Thomas’ four youngest siblings. There are also a few spelling and date mistakes in what you have listed. Looking forward to your reply. Lorraine Hillard

Robert Hillard 1804 - 29 Dec 1860 #9541 aged 56, son of Robert Hillard, wed Ann Somerville 1813 - 5 May 1885 #5369 aged 72. The family of six came June 1850 as Assisted Immigrants on the Bussorah Merchant when their birthdates were Robert 1811 and Ann 1816.
The FamilySearch listing by Les & Breht Townsing gives their residence in Dutton Haylick, County Fermanagh, North Ireland.

1. Anna Elizth Hillard set up house with David Wilson - a situation that on 12 March 1929 led to troubles that resulted in David's death by a gunshot wound, a three-day court case, Anna's sentence to 10 years hard labour, and the fostering of the couple's seven children. Fortunately the children have in adult life been reunited with the extended family.
