Barzillai, a Hebrew name meaning Strong, iron, belongs to three Old Testament characters. Use an old King James bible for these references
1. A Gileadite friend of David in his flight from Absalom, BC 1103 - 1023
2 Sam 17.27 ends ... and B the Gileadite of Rogelim
2 Sam 19.31 - 39 And B came ... to conduct him over the Jordan ... and B was a very old man even fourscore years old and he was ... a very good man ... and the king blessed him.
1 Kings 2.7 King David charged Solomon to deal loyally with the sons of B the Gileadite
2. B is the father of Adriel, husband of Merab, Saul's eldest daughter BC 1060
2 Sam 21. 8 And she brought up five sons for Adriel the son of B, and King David took the seven - 2 sons of Saul and 5 grandsons and hanged them in an effort to end the famine
3. A priest whose genealogy was lost, the father of some exiles who returned with Ezra BC 600

Hi Elizabeth,
Your page has been a wonderful source of information to me. I've been able to cross reference and re-check the information that I've gathered for our family trees over the years.
My husband Bernard and his sister Claudia are the grandchildren of *Elizabeth Emma GOWTY, daughter of Barzillai John and Alice GOWTY nee DEDMAN. *Elizabeth Emma GOWTY (1877-1940) married William CLAYFIELD (1878-1966) and had the following:
1. Edna Alice (1903-1903) died under age 1.
2. William George Clayfield (1904-19XX) m Lillian SCOTT ~ no children - divorced; then m Marjorie Creighton ~ no children
3. Linda Charlotte Clayfield (1906-19XX) m Percival LAYFIELD ~ no children
4. Rosa Elizabeth Clayfield (1908-1990) m Claude Alfred SPAIN ~ Claudia Elizabeth b 1941 Bernard John b 1943
5. Gladys Louisa Clayfield (1912-19XX) m Henry Albert BULDT (1913-1983) ~ Kenneth William b 1942
6. Lillian Bertha Clayfield (1914-living) m Royston KENNEALLY (19XX-1990) ~ no children

Bernard remembers fondly his trips on the train from Melbourne to Warnambool to stay with his mum's cousin George and his wife Myrtle Gowty and also all their children, Margaret, John, Judith, Dianne and later Heather at their farm. He also remembers with fondness George’s mother Agnes (Riah) who was sometimes there when he stayed as well.
Thank you for sharing your work. Regards, Jenni
