Subject: Job Godber

Hi Elizabeth,
I just found you site on the web that listed the Godber family. Job Godber was my GGGG grandfather, his and Mary Barlow's daughter Rosamond Godber married William Wilson (son of John Wilson and Martha Burgess of Langley who were also the parents of Martha Wilson who married Robert Godber). My family descended from this line. I found your site very interesting.
My maiden name was Weller, I notice you had this line mentioned too. I would be more than happy to help you with information on the Godber, Wilson, Kidd and Weller lines if you would like it.

Answer -
Yes, please, I always welcome details that go back to the old country, or bring us up to about 1920, Victoria's cut-off date to preseve Privacy of living individuals.

I will need to search for the death of Fred Chas Smith Orme to answer your comment. I have index on Orme to 1913, and so half the question is answered.
I looked up Victorian shipping http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/access.htm and I found the BEN VENUE came Oct 1871 with 48 Passengers including Charles H Orme aged 50 and Fred C Orme aged 6

Now Paul writes - Dear Elizabeth,
Thank you for your reply. I apologise for being so slow to reply.
With a couple of other Egerton Orme descendents, we am slowly piecing together this Orme family. One of these people describes himself as "knee-deep in Egerton Ormes".
The first Egerton Orme (c. 23 Oct 1716, d. 1787) on record was the son of a Sarah Orme nee ??? (d. 1 Apr 1744 leaving a will) and the grandson of a Mary Orme nee ??? (d. 3 Oct 1730 leaving a will). This Egerton first married a Lettice Stone on 21 Jan 1747 having already had a son, Egerton Orme Stone (1746-abt 1807). Lettice died on 6 Aug 1749 after which Egerton (1716-1787) married his first cousin Catherine Orme on 13 Apr 1758, the daughter of Thomas Orme and granddaughter of the said Mary Orme.
Egerton Orme Stone, sometimes known as Egerton Orme, appears at Bushbury, Staffs in 1790 and in Birmingham in 1807. On 23 Oct 1771, he married Anne Allcock. They had at least one child also named Egerton Orme. After Anne's death in 1777, he married a Sarah Falkner on 24 Oct 1781 in Scropton, Derbys.
Egerton Orme Stone and Anne Allcock's son, Egerton Orme, was collecting dole payments under the name "Hegerton Arm" in Walsall (near Wolverhampton) in 1815 and 1816. He married a Mary Richards in Handsworth (now part of Birmingham) on 18 Feb 1810 and they had at least these children and quite probably more:
Thomas Orme (c. 26 Sep 1813 in St Mathews, Walsall)
Charles Orme (b. 1 Mar 1826, c. 1 Nov 1830 in St Phillips, B'ham)
Frederick Orme (b. 24 Apr 1828, c. 1 Nov 1830 in St Phillips, B'ham)
Stephen Orme (b. 17 Jul 1830, c. 1 Nov 1830 in St Phillips, B'ham)

Egerton Orme died in 1854.
I feel sure that the Orme family you have connect into this line somehow although, at present, I do not know quite how. Do you know the father or mother's name of your Charles Orme (b. 13 Jul 1816)? Perhaps he is the grandson of Egerton Orme Stone.
There are more Egerton Ormes in Egerton (1716-1787) & Catherine's line but these seem to have remained in the Dove Valley on the Derbys/Staffs border.
Take care,
Paul

Dear Elizabeth,
While doing a Google search for Egerton Orme, I saw that on your web page (http://www.geocities.com/mepnab/g/g9.html) you have this entry:
6. Mary Godber 1868 #8803 wed 1892 #119 to Fred Chas Smith Orme and lived at Diamond Creek
1st child Charles Egerton Orme 1893 #3027R
Charles Egerton Orme caught my attention since Egerton is a very rare name. I would hazard a guess that I am probably related to this Orme family. I am descended from one Orme line and in it "Egerton" is a common male first or second name of male children. Do you have any more details on this family?
On my own line, I cannot get any further back from an Egerton Orme of Scropton, Derbyshire, England who was married in 1738 to a Catharine Orme (sic - probably a cousin). This Egerton Orme was probably a farmer since all his descendents were farmers. There is another Egerton Orme who was married in Lichfield Cathedral to a Lettice Stone in 1747 who must also be a relative but I am unable to link the two.
Take care,
Paul
