Frederick William Graban

The Grabau family were in Ratzeburg c1750 and Frederick William's parents Johannes Wilhelm Grabau, 1810-1879 and Caroline Kohne 1817-1876 were at Roskilde Denmark when he was born. The family moved to Sweden and it was from Startvik that Frederick GRABAU, sailor, in the St James left for Australia. In Melbourne, he and nine others left ship February 1867. The reward of two pounds for his return was never claimed

John Grace

From the FirstFamilies2001 page by Rosemary Wigg, 2001 - John Grace was born in Littleham by Exmouth in Devon into a nonconformist family, and was a master mariner, as were his forbears. He and his family moved to St. Peter Port, Guernsey about 1842 where the last two children were born and died as infants. He had a ship, the Aeolis which traded around the world. There is a painting of this ship in the Castle Cornet Museum in St. Peter Port. He paid the ship off in 1856 and he and his family sold up all their possessions in 1858 and sailed to a new life in Australia.
