I was doing some research yesterday on the net and came across your genealogy page. I found some photos at a Caulfield coin show and I am very curious if these photos may be connected to someone in your tree.
I am attaching a photo postcard of three young women, I'm guessing from the early 1900's, and also what it written on the back. I'm thinking the addressee, Miss L. Glass, may be the daughter of Samuel Stephen Glass and Mary Jamieson Black who are on your pioneer page. I found a death and funeral notice for Samuel who died at the residence of his daughter Lila (Mrs NJ Shankly) of Malvern. The dates of his birth correspond with his age of death 63 years in 1922. It was also interesting to note that Samuel and Mary were in Mansfield with two boys (Matthew and Samuel) and then went on to Sale. The death notice of Samuel in 1922 doesn't mention these two boys (did they die young?) - the children mentioned were Margaret (Mrs RN Smith), William, Bert and Lila.
Interestingly this postcard with the three women has "Wm Duncan Photo Sale" pressed into it - could these be cousins of Lila? The address is Mernda St Yan Yean, Samuel's occupation was listed on his death notice as Head Teacher of Longford and Mernda State Schools.
In addition to the photo I am sending you, I also picked up some other photos that were there, I've got a feeling they may belong together. I can also send you these. Two are of a very lovely young woman, I'm pretty sure that both photos are of the same person as she is wearing a necklace with a portrait of what looks like a young man. The earlier photo is undated but it was taken in Bourke Street. The second one she looks a little fatter and it is marked herrett & Co The Studio, Sale". Also, there is a photo of a small child, a girl I think about a year old, from Muntz Studio Malvern. Another photo is of a young mother and her two children (a boy and a younger little girl) aboard a ship, on the reverse is written "S.S. Mafana April 1921".
I live in Wantirna Melbourne, and also have a holiday home at Bonnie Doon near Mansfield. I'm also interested in genealogy and it just broke my heart seeing these photos in a box with people picking over them when they should rightfully be preserved.
Please let me know what you think, I'm happy to pass on anything that I have found if they are indeed members of your tree. Also if there is a link to Mary Jamieson Black I'm sure the Mansfield Historical Society would also be interested. I'm curious how Mary got "Jamieson" as middle namehttp://mepnab.netau.netit is also the name of a town close to Mansfield.

Andrew GLEN and Mary Smith married on the 28th March,1851 in Bon’ess, Falkirk, Scotland. Andrew was 23 years and Mary 21 years.They had eight children.Their first son was the only child born in Scotland, the following seven all born in Redbank, Victoria. The following Unassisted Shipping records state that Mary Glen[n] travelled with her young son, Andrew on board the vessel “Hilton” in January, 1860 from a British Port.

There is no record however of husband Andrew on board the same vessel for that date.He may have travelled alone to Victoria at an earlier date.

Andrew GLEN died 5th September, 1898 Reg;12676 aged 71 years in Laen. He is buried at Laen Cemetery. Mary Smith GLEN died 28th October, 1914 Reg;13646 aged 85 years in Donald. She is buried at Laen Cemetery with her husband.

Andrew Glen came c1857 and was followed in Jan 1860 by Mary Smith and the family lived at Redbank

Dear Elizabeth, I have just come across your website about pioneering families - and yes, thankyou. I am able to give you some more information about the Glendennings if you are interested. My father was Duncan Wilkie Craig, great-grandson of George Glendenning. (Which makes him my great-great- grandfather) My father was born in 1915 (not 1916) and died in 1985, and had two sisters, one older (Isabell - Bell) and one younger, (Helen) - if you want, I can easily find their birth dates. They are all now deceased.
