3. Sarah Annie Gladstone c1843 wed 1863 #724 to Frederick Pedrana, no children, and wed 1871 #4361 to John Irving Winter 1832 - 1877 aged 45 son of Margaret Irving and John Winter from Edinburgh, no children. The Colbiabbin homestead on Osment Road was built by John Irving Winter on the proceeds of gold and pastoral wealth in 1867 and still stands as a monument to the early settlers in the district. Frederick Pedrana then wed (not indexed) to Susan Lecky (3 variants of her surname) and had 3 children. He appears to be a son of Lewis Pedrana who was in Melbourne 12 Sep 1837 when he was appointed Overseer to superintend the work of the convicts in constructing roads - salary 5/-d per day. He later operated the Dundee Arms Hotel and on July 25 1842 was Insolvent as a Publican. This is thought to have been a renamed Governor Bourke Hotel, which was owned by Michael Carr and his wife Kitty and located in or near Flinders Lane. John Roberts married Mary Pedrana in May 1841 at St. James Church of England, Melbourne. She was Lewis Pedrana's only daughter and they had many children. For more on Pedrana see Hebrides discussion on Peteranna | |
