Alexander and Isabella Finlayson

From on Sunday, 3 March 2013
Hello Elizabeth,
I have asked the question before, but now I am pretty certain you have the wrong Alexander Finlayson.
The Alexander Finlayson who married Isabella McKay and had those children came from the Isle of Skye, not Caithness. He sailed out on the Flora in 1852.
There are three strong indications of this, being...
Alexanderís son, Murdoch, my grandfather, always said his father was from around Portree on Skye.
His link with shearing here and the shearing contract stated in the Flora passenger list.
And that all the people he associated with and linked to the family came from Skye. (Nicolsons, McKays, MacIntyres)
The William Finlayson who sailed on the Mary Ellen, who also lived at Ascot, is no relation to us or our Alexander that I know of.
Where your Alexander from the Mary Ellen went I donít know.
But our Alexander and wife Isabella are buried at Cobden, where he moved to around 1886. Regards Greg Finlayson

Hello Elizabeth, The Alexander Finlayson wed to Isabella Mckay, on your web page is not my great grandfather.
You have.. Alexander Finlayson 24, c1832, came Sep 1857 on the Ellen Stuart and wed 1861 #2922 to Isabella Mckay and lived at Ascot, Clunes, Glendonald
I agree with all except that I have him coming out on the Flora in 1852. I have a deep history of his plight in Balmeanach on Skye, the potato famine, his shearing indenture, etc.
I hope I have the correct Alexander Finlayson. Do you have details of where the one above, who emigrated with siblings, came from?
Regards, Greg Finlayson
