Charles Ignatz Du Ve

Charles Ignatz Du Ve wed 1863 #2909 to Agnes Adamson Buntine and lived at Rosedale
Charles Ignatz DUVE was born in 1835 in London, England. He died on 31 August 1915 at the age of 80. At the time of his marriage he was an Overseer on Gelantipy Station but from 1866 to his retirement they lived in Rosedale. Firstly he was employed as Pound Keeper by the Shire Council and from 1872 he was Rosedale Clerk of Courts. As such he played a leading part in the development of Rosedale. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1908. Both Agnes and Charles died while living at their retirement home in Caufield. Parents: Charles Augustas Ferdinand DU VE and Joanna Hall CRAY.

The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1931 - 1954) Friday 2 November 1934 - The death occurred on Tuesday of Mr. John Haytcr Reed, at his residence. Molesworth street. North Adelaide. Mr. Reed, who was in his 78th year, was formerly manager of the Adelaide branch 'of the Bank of Australasia. He retired from the service of the bank in 1915, after having served in several States. He has left four children — Mesdames Tarlton. Jefferis. C. Brebner. and Howard Florey, and Mr. Sydney Hayter Reed.

Ethel Florey was born on 1 October 1900 at Stanmore, Sydney, fourth child of John Hayter Reed, bank manager, and his wife Joanna Agnes, née Du Vé, both Victorian born. Educated at Tormore House School, Adelaide, and the University of Adelaide (M.B., B.S., 1924; M.D., 1950), she interrupted her medical career to raise her children. Florey, Howard Walter, Baron Florey (1898–1968), experimental pathologist and bacteriologist, was born in Adelaide, Australia, on 24 September 1898, the youngest child and only son of Joseph Florey (d. 1918), an Oxfordshire shoemaker who had emigrated in 1885, and his second wife, Bertha Mary Wadham, an Australian, with whom he had two daughters and a son. In 1926 Howard Walter Florey married Dr Mary Ethel Hayter (d. 1966), a pathologist, the daughter of John Hayter Reed, an Adelaide bank manager, whom he had known as a medical student in Adelaide; they had one son and one daughter.

Richard Duncalf c1822 and Elizabeth had a very trying time in early Victoria, burying 4 children and not registering any births. They appear to be the only Duncalf family in Victoria till 1888.
