Patrick Davoren From on Saturday, 8 January, 2011 Wedding certificate dated 17 Feb 1859, St Mary's Catholic Church, Geelong, Patrick Davoren aged 25, son of Margaret OKeeffe and Constance Davoren, farmer of Co Clare, Ireland, wed Catherine Fitzgerald aged 20, dau of Catherine Keenan and Gerald Fitzgerald, mercant of Cork, Ireland. Both signed their names. On her teaching record her name is crossed out from Kate to Catherine so I think this confirms her coming out alone on the Almora aged fifteen(?) in 1855 listed as Kate Fitzgerald. Patrick O’Keefe Davoren born in Ballynalacken 1831 (from his teaching record). There is some info which I am still trying to decipher on his record. He was discharged from teaching in 1880 in Victoria and was still living there in 1882 as he registered Mary Kathleen’s birth. (on this he states he came from Killilagh but I am not sure if this the parish or the town). Obviously unemployed as he listed himself as a gentleman. (Kate was still teaching ) I believe he went to Newcastle where he was head of a R.C. boys school and died suddenly in 1884. This is from a newspaper clipping which stated he left a large family behind in Victoria and year is correct from the oral family history.
