James Clough

Dear Elizabeth, A couple of corrections for your tree Pioneers
Family of William Oaten – his wife’s parents have been proven to be Samuel Billett and Ann Allen. The info provided by son James was suspect and research in Somerset has shown us it was Sam and Ann.
Family of James Clough on page James Clough
Peter’s wife’s family name was Deeker (noted as Decker in several places, but Sth African records, and signatures in an 1858 inquest document clearly Deeker) Also later records are Deeker.
Hope this is helpful, Garry Clough
Thankyou for the details of children I missed. Your help is much appreciated

The Ontario has been in quarantine fourteen days down at the Heads. Captain Wemyss speaks very highly of the arrangements made in the erection of a bakehouse by Captain Lane, the Government Commissioner, and considers that the supply of fresh bread has contributed materially to the health of his passengers, particularly the children. Ten deaths had occured during the passage, two adults and eight children ; five of the latter were infants under the age of one year. The attention of Dr. G. W. Paynter to the passengers is said to have given every satisfaction to all on board, and the deaths are considerably under the average on board those vessels. Mr. P. Atkinson was appointed by the Commissioners as the religious lntrustor to the passengers, and we undenstand that his services have afforded considerable benefit to the migrants.
