Elizabeth,
Sorry for taking so long to reply.
The place where John Collyer was born was named Mt Duneed. This was in the Connewarre, Breamlea area on the outskirts of Geelong.
The Collyer name is mentioned in the book South Barwon 1857-1985 compiled by John Prescott.
He spelt their name as Collyee. (page 152).
The Collyer family originated from Wynering, Hampshire, England.
John's father Thomas Collyer and his first wife Thirza Houghton son Caleb and daughter Thirza arrived in Adelaide 1849 on the William Money. The wife died on arrival at the Port. and the little Thirza died a few months later.
Thomas remarried - Christiana Clemens from St Just in Penwith, Cornwall.
Their Issue- Ann, Thomas, Christiana, Hannah, JOHN, Emma and Eli.
It was a surprise to read you had spent your teen years in Werribee. It is a big and busy place now. We liked it how it was.
Hope I have not bored you with too much information I really enjoy family history and think it should be recorded.
Fay Evans
Christena Collyer 1824 - 1884 #9091 aged 60 dau of Ann NICHOLS and Richd Clemens and died at Hazlewood
Christiana seems to be born about 1824, so in 1841 she would be about 15, and I think her pet name was Kitty -
the family is on Cornwall Census 1841 and I got Book 10 Folio 39 Page 35, last family is Parkanchapel,1, all born in the County,
Richard Clemens,45,,Tin Miner, Ann Clemens,,45,

There is a possibility that this household includes Grandma! --------------------------- Wed, 18 Oct 2006 Hello Elizabeth,
Yes Christiana Clemens was known as Kitty.
Most of her family did come to Australia.
Christiana Clemens arrived on the Marion 1848 Adelaide. She was the daughter of Richard & Ann Clemens. Born 17 Jan 1825 St Just in Penwith. She died 1884 Boolara. Vic. buried at Hazelwood. Vic.
After her father died (1st May 1850) On 1851 census Ann is listed as a widow. Her mother (Ann) came to Australia however she died a few months after arriving.
Ann Clemens arrived 1860 on Roxburgh Castle.
Ann is buried Geelong Eastern Cemetery. 1860 as Annie Clemens. She died 23 Nov 1860, age 66 yrs.
Two sisters Jane & Mary Clemens arrived in 1853 on Credenda. Jane was 17 domestic servant and Mary 19, dressmaker.
Yes grandma was included on 1841 census.
The parents of Ann were James and Mary Nicholas.
Richard Clemens and Ann Nicholas were married 25 April 1817 St Just.
Richard was the son of Richard Clemens and Ann Trembath they were married 16 Feb 1793 St Just.
I have only touched briefly on this family a lot of research has been done by others which I have been given a copy of.
There are some great web sites on Cornwall. I could spend many days looking at all the interesting information.
The one on the arrival of the William Money 1848-49 is very good. William Money This was the voyage that Thomas and Thirza Collyer/Collier and family came out to Australia on. Or put William Money 1848-49 into search/find.
Time to stop my prattling. Fay Evans
