In the wonderful way family history has threads we do not see, Dean has heard I wanted to talk to him, and has sent his permission to quote from his page.
Francis Bassett BEEL b 9 Jan 1834 at Ladock, Cornwell, Great Britain, d 9 Dec 1888 aged 55, Victoria married 6 Mar 1861 in St Enoder, Cornwall, Great Britain to Elizabeth Jane STEPHENS b 20 Jan 1842 at Cornwall, Great Britain, d 8 Jul 1932 at Beechworth, Victoria
Francis Bassett Beel was a Cornish migrant who came to Australia to dig for gold. He built a house in 1852 in Fighting Gully Road at Three Mile Diggings, Baarmutha, near Beechworth. (Fighting Gully, so called because a boxing ring stood there in the gold mining days so that miners could use it to let off some of their accumulated frustrations.) He stayed there and planted an orchard and run dairy cattle. (See article The Age, Saturday 29 January 1983, p33).
Once established, he returned to Cornwall and wed 19 year old Elizabeth. They returned to Beechworth in Victoria

Hi Elizabeth
My name is Margaret Owens, and I am a descendant of Francis Basset BEEL and Elizabeth Jane STEPHENS. I recently received an email from my young cousin Dean McRae, telling me of your site. Congratulations on all your hard work.
I have been researching my Family Tree for just on 30 years ..... I married in 1973 and lived in North Wales for 18 years before coming home to Australia to live in 1991. My grandmother Eliza (Lila) Jane BAILEY nee BEEL (grandma died in 1993 at the grand age of 95 years) was a great help to my sister Marilyn MAPSTONE (she died in 1999) and myself when we started researching the family tree. Grandma could remember all her 76 cousins' names, ages, dates of birth, dates of death, who they married, the names of their children, etc. etc. Sadly, she had a stroke 4 years before she died and could never speak again. We nicknamed her "The Oracle". If anyone wanted to know anything about Beechworth, they got in touch with her .... she also knew a lot of other stories !!
