Adolph Braash

This family was researched because I believed there was a connection to Mary Ann Fyfe, and now know there were two of this name.

From on Tuesday, 25 May, 2010

Dear Elizabeth
Quite a long time ago I wrote to you re a reference on your site to Mary Ann Fyfe and Adolph Braash who married in 1862.
Mary Ann Robb Fyfe was the fourth and youngest daughter of James Fyfe and Susan Doig, neither of whom came to Australia. Mary Ann is likely connected to other Fyfes in Newstead as she maintained connections there throughout her life. A Mary Anne Fife is listed as arriving on the Merchant Prince in March 1858 and this is almost certainly her. Her third child was named Agnes (presumably named after her eldest sister Agnes, born Kirriemuir 1825) and the child's other given name, Dick, suggests Mary Ann may also have had some connection to the Dick family who were fellow passengers on the Merchant Prince.
regards, Rosalind Hopkins

The Dick family came March 1858 on the Merchant Prince as Assisted British Immigrants, and details come from 2 lists, consists of Book 11A page 154 where they are David Dick 41, wife with, 004 children with, and on page 159, Robert Dick aged 19. Book 13 page 130 (Families) lists David Dick 41, Barbara Dick 40, David 9, John 7, Barbara 4, Page 139 (Single men) Robert Dick 19, Page 141 (Single women) has Janet 16, Mary 13.

Own page for Joseph Bradford,

John Bradney

John Bradney worked with arsenic as a 'tinner' and died of poisoning, wife charged and found 'Not Guilty'. Only 2 chn, Eliza and John.

Convicts compiled by Don Allen. From his page - John BRADNEY, (born c.1795) a clerk, with five others was sentenced to death at the Warwick Assizes Bridgewater on 2 August 1817 for forging and uttering £ notes. All six pleaded guilty. He came from Birmingham, according to the shipping records and was 5 feet 9 inches tall, had fair complexion, freckles, sandy hair and hazel eyes.
All six Forgery cases were heard together at Warwick on 2 Aug 1817
John was transported on the “Neptune” which left the Downs (SE England) on 20 December 1817 went via the Cape of Good Hope and arrived in Sydney on 5 May 1818. He was 22 years old at that time.
Unfortunately, there was more than one person bearing the name John was baptised in Birmingham about this time.
Our John is most likely to be the son of Joseph Bradney & Mary who was baptised at St Philips Cathedral, Birmingham on 19 Sep 1796. There was another John, the son of Thomas Bradney & Mary baptised at the same cathedral on 5 Aug 1793, but this birth does not match later convict records where John's age was given.
Mary Ann BRADNEY (nee HILL) (born c.1798) a servant girl was sentenced to death along with six others (one being Joseph Bradney) at the Warwick Assizes on 28 March 1818 for uttering forged £ notes. All pleaded guilty and received the death sentence but with a recommendation for mercy. Mary was transported on the “Lord Wellington” in 1819 and the vessel sailed via Ireland, Rio de Janiero and the Cape of Good Hope before arriving in Sydney on 20 January 1820. Mary was then 21 years old. She was the wife of John.
Did she commit the same crime in order to be able to join John in Australia?

Samuel Bradney

Samuel Bradney wed 1856 #1903 to Elizabeth E Shiels at Penrith with dau Elisa M Bradney 1857 #10176 born at Penrith
Samuel Bradney took to the 'Kelly Country' and worked as a farm hand until he died in 1911, aged 81 years. His death is registered in Beechworth, as he worked in the 'Ovens and Murray' area. At Beechworth Museum his burial is listed under 'Samuel BRADLEY' an easy mistake to make for an old man who had been working on a property.
