From on Wed, 28 Jan 2004, refering to Elizabeth Andrews c1830 wed 1850 #29219 to John Clark Hammond
Elizabeth Andrews had a sister Esther who married Benjamin William Stocks and Esther and Benjamin had a daughter Helena Mortimer Stocks who was my great grandmother - her husband was Harry Beaumont Hammond.
Hi Sue,
I am back home, and looking at the Andrews clue you sent me.
Do you agree that the Andrews family came as Assisted British Immigrants arrived 19 July 1848 on the Palmira? Sailed from Liverpool to Port Phillip, departed 14 April 1848, Surgeon/Superintendent Alex. Russell, souls embarked 254 (208 statute adults)

From on Sun, 22 Feb 2004

1848, 19 July - James Andrews arrived in Victoria aboard Palmira aged 41. He was accompanied by his wife, Mary Ann, aged 42, Elizabeth aged 18, Anne aged 16, James aged 13, Emma aged 12, Richard aged 11, Esther aged 9 and William aged 7. It is assumed Jane, John and Thomas were deceased before they came. All could read and write except his wife, Mary Ann, who could read only. He was listed as being a labourer and a Wesleyan.

1881, 29 July - His wife, Mary Ann, died at Mooroopna Hospital, Merrigum, Victoria, aged 75. The cause of death was "syncope, disease of heart" which she had for three weeks. The informant on her death certificate was her son, James Andrews, of Mooroopna West.

1881, 1 August - She was buried at the Methodist cemetery, Mooroopna, Victoria and F.J. Watsford, Wesleyan minister officiated. She had lived in Victoria for 33 years. Mary Ann was survived by Mary, Anne 49, James 46, Emma 45, Richard 44, Esther 42 and William 40. Elizabeth, Jane, John and Thomas were deceased

1890, 4 September - James died at Kyabram East, Victoria, aged 84. He was listed as a farmer. The cause of death was bronchitis which he had for 14 days. His doctor was Dr. Merrilies who last saw James on the day he died. The informant was his son, William Andrews, who lived in Kyabram East, Victoria.

1890, 6 September - He was buried at the Methodist cemetery, Mooroopna, Victoria, by Philip Haines, Wesleyan minister. Three of his children, Mary, Elizabeth and Emma had predeceased him and he was survived by his other children, Ann 59, James 56, Richard 54, Esther 50 and William 49. There was no mention of Jane, John or Thomas so it is possible we have these children in by mistake.
See the new addition to the NSW web site - Palmira passengers list for the 1848 arrival. The family of 8 children and parents came July 1848 on the Palmira - James Andrews 41 and Mary Andrews 43 are listed with Elizabeth 18, Anna 16, James 14, Emma 12, Richard 11, Esther 9, William 7
