August 2.-Gem of the Sea, barque, 450 tons, J. Bowen, from New-York 18i April. Passengers cabin thirty, and eight in the second. Captain Bowen, agent.
Advertised on Friday 16 September 1853 -
FOR the United States and England, via Callao and the Isthmus of Panama. We will despatch the new and A1 Clipper Barque GEM OF THE SEA, Captain Albert Bowen, to Callao on tho 18th inst. The sailing qualities of this vessel-as proved by this, her first voyage-are of the first order. Her accommodations for a limited number of passengers are superior. A few passengers will be taken for the voyage through to the United States, round Cape Horn, after leaving Callao.

The Gem of the Sea.-The honour of making the quickest trip on record between Australia and Callao, is due to the English; the Gem of the Sea which brought files of Australian papers, belonging to that nation. Our Yankees must put on another topsail and improve their models, for John Bull was not made to bo beaten easily. The Gem made the voyage between Melbourne and Callao in thirty-six days, the quickest trip ever made by a sailing vessel.-Daily California Chronicle, Decèmber 19th.

Her daughter Elisie Reubina Lowe born Beaufort Vic 1890 R29769, Married...Robert Charles Lay...1916 Vic R 5841.

William Robert B1919 Warbuton Vic R15426.
George died in Warbuton 1920.

I believe he was burried at Ballarat cemetery and probably in the Descenters section. You have spurred me on to do more on this family!!

I found the Lilley, Russell, and Connor families around Waterloo and Raglan at that time.
I agree I keep the charts online to the non living too.
