William Henry and Ann Eliza Rogers Alford

This family are ancestors of Diane who has a web site for them. She has kindly corrected my notes

From on Monday, 14 February, 2011
Hi Elizabeth,
I have just discovered that there were definitely 2 William Alfords wed to 2 women called Ann Rogers, around the same time. This means that not all of the 16/17 children were for the one family. It may take some time to sort out. I know that William Henry Alford died in 1878 because the death index states he was from Wiltshire and his father was Abel.
He is listed on the 1851 census age 13 living with his parents in England and working as a Woollen ?Casting? Operator.
His wife Ann died 21 Mar 1909 in Tooradin (reg Cranbourne) aged 72 and is listed as Ann Eliza Alford d/o Robert Rogers and Mary Marks (she left a Will).
The 1903 Will I just found was for a William Alford living in the Warragul area and among the names mentioned I saw daughter Mary Jane Pharaon. This William's wife Ann died in Warragul in 1906 aged 78 with parents listed as unknown.
Ann Eliza Alford's Will. dated 20 Dec 1901, has 2 sons mentioned, Robert and William.
Ann Alford's Will, dated 11 Jul 1903, mentions sons George and Thomas, dau Mary

Daphne Allcorn was a victim of a hit and run accident involving Squizzy Taylor on 5/5/1924 and died 14/05/1924. She was getting off a tram on the corner of Commercial Rd and St. Kilda Rd when Squizzy Taylor's black Hudson hit her. She landed on the bonnet, was pushed off by the passenger and ran over again. On the day of the incident there were 26 witnesses and on the day of the trial there were none!! He was only charged with harbouring an escaped convict even though there was clear cut evidence of his involvement - his car had blood and red hair on it. This incident was recorded in The Sun Melbourne.
Also in The Argus, Melbourne, Vic, Wednesday 7 May 1924 (page 22), with Inquest on Thursday 15 May 1924 (Page 10) and repeated 17 May 1924 (Page 30), where the driver of car 771, is named as Leslie Taylor.
