From on Saturday, 3 July, 2010,

I do have the marriage certificate between John Gibson AITKEN and Isabella GALLOWAY which states that Allan GALLOWAY was a soldier and that both Allan and Isabella were deceased at the time of the wedding in 1858. John Gibson AITKEN was a farmer and his father a gardener. The marriage was witnessed by James AITKEN and Alexander AITKEN – now probably his two younger brothers or his father and a younger brother. Hello, With regard to George Aldridge born Launceston wed Kate White - his parents were convicts Henry Aldred (arrived John) and Margaret Agnew (arrived Nautilis) sent to Tasmania. They changed their name when they came to Victoria but I haven't been able to find out when and by what ship they came. However a lot of ticket of leave men who worked for men settling up runs in Victoria came by private ships to ports other than Melbourne (e.g. Geelong, Port Fairy, Portland) and so he may have been with them. He worked for Scobie around Honeysuckly Creek, Violet Town I believe. I am descended from daughter Margaret Aldridge who wed Abel White, son of William White and Ann Church, who settled in Violet Town.
Regards, Helen Fry.
